Gena Napier, MD
Dr. Napier practices family medicine and sees patients from newborns to seniors.
Dr. Napier completed her residency and a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Louisville and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Napier's interest in sports medicine coincides with her personal interest in fitness. She kayaks, scuba dives, mountain bikes, skis and snowboards. She volunteers at local marathons, high school football games and provided medical coverage at the 2007 American Senior Olympic Games and the 2008 USA Masters Cycling event.
Joanne Thanavaro, NP
BJC Medical Group adds years of outstanding nursing expertise with nurse practitioner Joanne Thanavaro, DPN, MSN(R), APRN, ANP-BC, ACNP-BC, DCC, who joined Florissant Valley Family Medicine July 1. With a doctorate in nursing and an advanced practice registered nurse degree, Thanavaro is also board-certified as both an adult and an acute care nurse practitioner. She recently earned a DCC, which designates her as a diplomate in comprehensive care awarded by the American Board of Comprehensive Care. This recognition is held by only 22 doctorally-prepared nurse practitioners in the United States and is an earned credential that demonstrates a high level of competence in clinical care.
Thanavaro is particularly interested in heart disease and health issues for women. She has authored numerous articles on coronary heart disease and risk factor modification. She has served as an associate professor for Saint Louis University School of Nursing for several years, coordinates the adult nurse practitioner program and serves as a nurse practitioner advisor and mentor. She is active in the American Heart Association's speakers bureau.
